Hiking to Eagle Falls with two young people from our church, Danielle and Jimmy.
Daniel being adventurous.
Eagle Falls, our destination.
Daniel, Jimmy, and Danielle decided to climb to the top of the falls.
Amazingly, the river was STILL at flood stage from the record rains we had this summer.
Daniel and Kristina at their favorite view-point again.
Jimmy trying to hug the big knot on the tree.
Daniel standing on top of it.
Unique late-summer flowers.
Two spider fighting.
It was a perfect day for canoeing and the scenery was beautiful!
I hadn't canoed much before, so Daniel was sure to put me in the back for part of the trip, so I could learn to steer too.
Daniel's parents just sitting and enjoying the nature sights and sounds. So relaxing out there!
Daniel and Kristina in their canoe.
Evening shadows getting long as we come back to shore for landing.
Our first tomato in our "pot garden!"
Freezing nectarines.
Ended up with nine quarts!
Our second canoe trip was just a week later. We decided to do it near where we live, down the Little South Fork.
It was a warmer day, and we stopped part-way to play around in the water.
Daniel's Mom looking at the beautiful flowers along the banks!
The neat rock formations and the clear reflections were beautiful!
We got to a section of rapids, so we parked one canoe, and Daniel dragged the other canoe through the water, while the rest of us walked behind him. All four of us piled into one canoe and continued on down the river.
We reached more shallow water, and decided to park that canoe and keep walking further to see what was there. Was so much fun to play in the water and cool off again!
This creek is coming straight out of the ground--probably from a cave somewhere. The water was COLD!
Coming back, Daniel and his Mom decided to ride the canoe downstream through the rapids. They had a blast!
Dad decided he wanted to try it too, so Daniel dragged the canoe upstream again and they came back down!
We weren't in any hurry to head back to the car, can you tell? (Notice, Daniel's so good at steering, he doesn't even have to watch where he's going!)
Breathtaking beauty of God's creation!
Another one of the flowers we saw along the banks.
Same flowers--only the bud.
The whole plant that produced those flowers.
Another Sabbath found us with lots of company! Daniel's family came and brought some old friends with them too. We all went hiking at Eagle Falls. The kids had a blast!
Another part of the Eagle Falls trail (the last stairs before reaching the bottom).
Back at the falls again! (This time Daniel took the camera to the top of the falls).
Looking down at us waving.
View looking straight down the falls.
Daniel at his favorite watching post.
Workbee at the church on Sunday. Tearing down an old ant-riddled picnic structure, so we can build an addition onto the church for classrooms.
David came to stay with us for a couple months while doing his fundraising for India. His first Sabbath we hiked Yahoo Falls. We were SO hot, it felt SO refreshing to walk under the falls before continuing our hike! This was David's turn.
Kristina's turn.
Daniel's turn.
Looking back at part of the trail around the falls.
We also hiked to Yahoo Arch that day.
Exploring underneath the arch.
Looking straight down from the top of the arch.
Daniel dangling his legs off the top.
David and Robert relaxing in the living room.
David, Robert, and Daniel exploring around the top of Eagle Falls.
Friends from church looking up, Daniel, Robert, and David looking down.
Another afternoon of canoeing! This time just Daniel, Kristina, and David in one canoe. We went back to Little South Fork, but the water level was way down and we couldn't paddle far, so we ended up just walking up the river and exploring!
Look! There's a BIG fish!
David's a great brother!
Daniel and Kristina enjoying the view.
Daniel and David bringing the ice chest from the canoe, so we can eat lunch.
Feast in the wilderness! Food never tasted so good!
Beautiful reflections!
Another Sabbath afternoon hike, this time along the Cumberland river on the other side of the falls.
