Marriage Dedication for Israel and Kyla
The ceremony was short, but very meaningful, spiritual and special.
Cutting the cake -- it was a very yummy cheesecake.
Kyla and Israel's family
We spent an extra day camping at Israel and Kyla's property, and came back home in time to give David one day to pack. Then we drove to Atlanta to take David and Esther to the airport. Saying goodbye was SO hard! Pray for them as they work in India/Nepal!
On our way back, we stopped in Chattanooga to visit Timothy and get in on one meeting of SEYC. Listening to Timothy's orchestra practice was lots of fun!
For our 7th month anniversary, we celebrated by a special candlelit dinner at home, and Daniel gave Kristina a dozen roses (first ones since our engagement!).
Daniel's surprise birthday party. (Cake made out of apple burritos with cookies on top.)
We were SO happy to have Kristina's brother, Erick, come and visit us for nearly two weeks! This was his first glimpse of our house.
Claws even enjoyed following him on his walks!
The second day Erick was here, we had our very first cooking class. (Our classes are still going on the third Tuesday of every month). Here Kristina is demonstrating gluten-free, dairy-free waffles.
Wednesday we took Erick hiking at Natural Arch, about 20 min from our home.
Here's a panorama view of natural arch and the ridges around it.
Closer view of natural arch.

Kristina enjoying the view.
More view from the top of the arch.
Taking a short-cut route back down the arch (a little more adventurous!)
Thursday we hiked down in TN at Honey Creek, about 1.5 hours from our house.
One of the many bridges we crossed.
Neat iron ore deposits in the rock walls.
Kristina and Daniel in one of the Indian rock houses (natural rock shelters).
See Daniel down in the valley? That gives you an idea of how tall that rock wall is!
Erick going up tallest ladder we had to climb (we had to come back DOWN it too!)
It's safe! You can come up now!
One of the many little waterfalls we saw along the way.
The trail goes right through that crack.
Hello down there!
Ladder up to the biggest Indian Rock House along the trail. We ate lunch inside there.
View from inside the shelter. It was really neat!
Another pretty little waterfall.
Notice how many trees are growing on top of the rock?
One tree (growing on top of the rock) fell over partway, but some of its roots were able to keep it on. The moss covering its roots created a cave, so Erick climbed in!
Then he took a picture of the inside!
Honey Creek Falls
The end of the trail.... we're tired, but happy! It was a strenuous 6 mile hike, but very pretty and lots of fun!
Erick and Kristina hiked at Cumberland Falls and Eagle Falls on Friday, while Daniel worked at a client's office. This is Cumberland Falls with the fall colors.
Hiking along the Eagle Falls Trail.
View of Cumberland Falls with the fall colors, from our favorite viewpoint along the trail.
Eagle Falls!
Kristina sitting by Eagle Falls.
Erick being a bit more adventurous--sitting by Eagle Falls (and trying not to slide off!)
Sabbath we hiked with Daniel's family and some friends from church, down to Yahoo Falls and Yahoo Arch.
Yahoo Falls is more like a trickle during the fall, but still very pretty!
Kristina and Erick with Yahoo Falls in the background.
Erick and Kristina on top of Yahoo Arch.
All the youth up on top of the arch.
L-R Jimmy, Kristina, Daniel, Lynn (standing), Danielle, Andrew, and Erick.
Looking down at the parents from top of the arch.
Daniel's Mom had to try sitting where Kristina was, just to see what it was like!
Daniel trying to see how big the tree was.
Going down the leaf-covered trail!
Erick sitting as close to the edge of Yahoo Falls as possible.
This was his view!
It's a LONG ways down there!
Daniel standing as close as he dared go.
One of the overlooks along the trail.
Erick pondering the scenery around him.

Here's the photo he took.
Mom watching the sunset. What a beautiful place to have vespers!
Family photo before Daniel's parents went back home.
Andrew deep in thought.
The colorful parkinglot shortly before we headed back home.
Sunday's adventure took us to Blue Heron Coal Mining Camp, in the Big South Fork National Park. (About 30 min drive from our house) This was a cute country church we stopped to take pictures of along the way.
Fall view from the lookout at the top of the ridge above the coal mining camp. From there we hiked straight down into the gorge below.
Along the way down, we hiked through an area called "Cracks in the Rock."
Daniel is standing inside the huge crack!
Looking straight up at the crack above us
And the crack in front of us out the other side.
Climbing the stairs through the cavern in the rock.
Looking through the crack we were headed out through.

Sunset over a countryside on our way home.
Monday we headed on a farther drive -- out to Cumberland Gap National Park. This was the view of the morning sun from our neighbor's house.
Here's a morning mountain view from Highway 90, just a few miles down the road.
Look at the fog rising from the hollers!

Replica of an old-time settler cabin and yard.
Deer grazing in the field just behind the little cabin.
Our first glimpse of White Rocks, the ridge we were about to climb.
Closer view of White Rocks, as we neared the trailead. There was about a 2,000 ft elevation climb and the trail was almost entirely switchbacks. It was about 9 miles total round trip.
Part of the trail up to White Rocks.
The fall colors were beautiful!
But the climb was tough for Kristina!

Erick pondering the scene.
Erick being a little more adventurous while trying to get a better view.
Nice seat!
Maybe even a bit dangerous? Sure made for a nice view though!
Don't look down, Erick!
Another little bird we found at the top of the ridge, over 3,000 elevation (I didn't know ridges got that high in Kentucky!)
Erick taking photos of Daniel and Kristina.
Come one, Daniel, you can come closer, it's not dangerous over here. We're plenty far from the edge!
Success!
Kristina taking the previous photo of Erick.
One more shot of the view before heading on to sand cave.
Kristina enjoying her last few moment of rest.
The backpack served as an interesting tripod for this picture! Not too bad!
Our first views of sand cave.
Standing in the mouth of sand cave (more like a rock shelter). The sand inside was like powder that went poof! poof! with every step!
Daniel standing in the entrance -- just to give you an idea of size. It was huge!
Kristina not wanting to go any further inside.
The view from inside the cave, looking out.
Looking out the other side of the cave.
View looking out of the cave from the far back corner.
Interesting formations deep inside the cave.
Daniel trying to trudge through the powdery sand. One step forward, two steps back.
Erick ran ahead on the way back down, so he could get some sunset pictures as the sun set across the valley from White Rocks. This is sunset picture #1

It was nearly dark when Daniel and I reached the car, and shortly after the moon came out brightly. By the end of today, Daniel and Kristina had hiked about 28 miles with Erick in one week!
Tuesday was Erick's last day with us, so Daniel decided to take him caving at Hail Cave. Kristina was tired after a long week of hiking, so she stayed home. Here's a few of their photos. This is the entrance to the cave.
This is taken from just inside the cave, looking back out the entrance.
Daniel standing in a passageway.
A very unique spider!
Fossils inside the cave
Come on up, Erick!
Follow me, Erick, you'll make it through just fine. As long as my feet are moving, you know I'm ok!
Cave Cricket
Curtain cave formation
More neat formations
Erick enjoying the intriguing scene.
One of the neat rooms inside the cave.
Self portrait -- they did a pretty good job!
Crawling, sliding, lots of fun and lots of mud!
Bats sleeping in the cave.

Now Kristina wants to go there sometime!
