Looking around our front yard.
Looking back at our house from down the driveway
More of our front yard.
Walking down our nature trail through the woods. Claws likes to take walks with us too!
Pausing to look at the view over the ridges.
Heading farther down the trail.
Most of our pines are the white pine variety. This one was truly a "white" white pine!
The holly trees were SO pretty covered in snow!
Daniel with Claws. She enjoyed the break from having cold paws!
Kristina with Claws.
Looking through our woods from another point in the trail.
Claws had a blast playing in all the snow!
More along our nature trail.
And back home again.
Looking at the backyard from the back porch.
More of the backyard. You can see our clothesline in the distance, strung between the trees.
The rest of our backyard.
Claws supervising our work while keeping her paws dry.
Lets see how big of a snowman we can build with 2.5 inches of snow on the ground!
Claws playing with the branch we brought for the snowman.
And there's our cheery snowman, complete with Daniel's stocking cap!
Uh oh... I don't think we made him straight enough... he's falling!
Our poor snowman 24 hours later.
View of our backyard now that the snow melted. You can see our future salad garden.
The circle of leaves is our other future garden spot. We've been working for a year to get some top soil in there, but it still has a ways to go.
Daniel and I have been hauling and stacking the wood we got a few weeks ago. We finallly finished it! Here's Daniel hauling after we'd done half the pile.
And this is the other half of the wood stacked.
Daniel's family came over for an early Christmas dinner.
Singing Christmas Carols with organ/piano.
This is how Daniel cuts Kristina's hair! (NOT!!)
Kristina's second try at a wreath--made from cedar boughs from our trees. Worked better this time!
Holly bouquet from our woods.
Christmas cookies all ready for the cooking class. Yellow lemon stars, pink cherry hearts, brown maple-men, white mint trees. Yummy!!!
Flower bouquet Daniel got Kristina for our 9th month anniversary!
It's snowing again!
Slushy snowflakes...
Thick and fast!
About 30 minutes later...
Look at how big they are! Some over 3in diameter!
The next morning, and 8 inches of snowfall later...
It's beautiful!
Let's go for a walk! Looking back at our house from our driveway.
The poor trees are LOADED with wet, heavy snow!
Headed around the side of the house.
Looking into the backyard...
and the back porch.
Lets head down the road to our nature trail!
Hmmmm the nature trail is more like a jungle of fallen trees!
Our snowy view of the next ridge.
Climbing through the trees along the trail
Poor trees!
Sure is pretty though.
Close-ups of ice and snow on the holly trees.
And the holly berries.
More of our trail "jungle".
No wonder the trees are so bent over!
More ice.
Ice on yellow pine cones.
Claws not so sure of this wet stuff!
Cherry pudding for Sabbath breakfast.
Yummy!!
We are blessed with next door neighbors who used to live in Michigan--and who brought their tractor and snowplow with them when they moved! He was SO excited for a chance to use it!
This is Robert and Daniel with our 7-foot snowman! We had a blast making it, but had to build a snow ramp to haul the second ball onto the first one! It was HEAVY!
Daniel and Kristina with the snowman.
Biggest snowman we've ever built! Pretty good for Kentucky!
Hanniel and Andrew's wedding was only an hour away. The service was very nicely done and spiritual. Here Andrew is awaiting Hanniel's arrival.
Here she comes with her Father (who was also the minister).
The wedding cake.
Robert having a blast with his little "shadow". :)
Andrew and Hanniel with Daniel and Kristina.
With Robert and Timothy.
Andrew and Hanniel.
With Lindsay and the little girl she was babysitting.
The car... decorated last minute! Their friends did a great job!
Emily and Kristina.
Another glimpse of our snowman... three days later and still standing!
Claws surveying the world from the top of the mailbox, nothing escaping her notice.
No danger anywhere? Guess it's bathtime!
What else can you do on a mailbox? Guess you can take a nap...
We decided to explore the National Forest bordering our property one afternoon.
We were trying to find a cave that we've been told is somewhere near this area. We found lots of BIG rocks, but no cave this time. (Notice Daniel's head at the bottom of the picture for size comparison.)
"Slave Wall" remnants. This wall was once a property boundry marker.
Beaver chewed tree--guess they still live near here too!
Peaceful stream flowing down through the holler. Look--it's actually clear water!
More of the stream.
Another special Candlelit dinner together. We love having those!
Our friends, Jason, Midori, Adam, and Pastor Sam asked if they could come caving with us. Eureka cave is only a few miles from us, and this was the sign at the beginning of the dirt road leading to the cave. So comforting!
Jason and Midori getting ready to hit the trail.
And away we went!
Daniel and Kristina, along with the others.
Jason and Adam, checking out the cave entrance.
Climbing down, down, down, into the cave!
Do you really want to climb up into that tiny hole??
Guess we all followed anyway!
Adam bringing up the rear.
One of the bats we found inside.
Kristina getting ready to climb up the waterfall.
Adam and Jason at the very highest point of the waterfall they could squeeze into!
Pastor Sam climbing down after one of his explorations.
Jason examining a nice formation inside one of the passageways.
The guys washing off after playing in a big mud-slide!
Caving is great!
