It was so exciting to see our Kids Cooking Kollege featured in the newspaper the following week!
We had to take a canoe trip before the summer disappeared completely, so we went to Alum Ford with Daniel's parents and Andrew.
The weather was SO hot, we couldn't go very far.
So we paddled a little ways and found a nice BIG rock.
And jumped in!
It took a bit of encouragement, but Lucas finally jumped in too. He wasn't used to the muddy Kentucky rivers!
The water felt SO good and refreshing on such a hot day!
Now that we had cooled off some, we set off upstream to explore.
So beautiful and peaceful out there!
We found a nice rocky beach to eat our picnic in the shade.
What wonder in God's creation!
Time for another trip! Destination, Orlando, Florida. Here's a little viewpoint on our way through Tennessee.
You can see for miles!
Sea World was our first stop, at Lucas' request. What foreign student wouldn't want to go there?
The rays swimming over our heads were fun to watch.
The dolphin show was by far Kristina's favorite--you can tell by all the pictures...
Riding two dolphins like skiis
Four dolphins flipping in the air at once
The one on the right literally flew across the pool--in air!
They look so neat "walking"across the water on their tails!
Yes, we were sitting in the splash zone, so we got the next splash (Kristina shut the camera off just in time to get drenched!)
Grand Finale!
The killer whales were neat too, but not as fun as the dolphins.
We still got wet though--by that tail!
Ever seen a killer whale turn a full circle on it's back?
This was a once-in-a-lifetime shot!
After watching the shows, these guys looked awfully lazy....
We went up to the top of that tower--was a neat view at night!
We ended by watching the firework display from the other side of the lake (away from the seating). We got a better view that way!
The colored fountains just before the firework display.
Bang! They actually exploded directly over our heads! Never been that close before...
The day ASI started, we spend a couple hours at the Kennedy Space center first.
The bus tour was fabulous! This is the parking garage for the space shuttle.
The other side
The shuttle launch pad
The other launching pad
One of the rocket engines--it's massive!
Daniel and Lucas looking at part of the engine--it was nearly two stories tall!
We saw an alligator in that pond, while driving by in the bus.
The actual computers used when the first space shuttle went off.
Comfortable space capsule?
Kristina was intrigued by the space suits--some of those look like knight armor!
Lucas touching a rock from the moon's surface.
A tortoise along the road.
A steril building where they manufacture parts for the space station. It was fun to watch them working!
More of the buildings along the tour.
That was the building where later we would experience the space launch!
The space shuttle was fun to look at.
There's the rockets for the shuttle.
After our bus tour, we headed to the beach for a quick picnic before going to the first meeting at ASI.
We got a phone call from the foreign student headquarters there on the beach. They were jealous!
ASI was a lot of work, but lots of fun. We were assistant teachers for the youth classes all weekend. We enjoyed spending a few spare moments with friends there.
Daniel working the sign-in desk.
Sabbath was packed because of good speakers and wonderful orchestra music!
After ASI ended, we went back to Kennedy Space Station for some more touring.
It was fun to talk to a live astronaut
and get a photo with him!
The rockets were neat!
the control panel in the shuttle
The rocket looks small until you see Daniel below it
Our one and only chance to be in a space suit.... kind of, anyway ;)
The space shuttle launch simulator was great!
Strapped in the seats, ready for takeoff!
More rockets...
The rocket garden :)
Another "comfortable" space shuttle... (Daniel is inside)
Heading back to our motel from the space center, we had a tire blowout! Thankfully, we made it back on the spare and got new tires the next morning.
Leaving Orlando, headed back to Kentucky, we stopped along the way for some sightseeing...
Like Daytona Beach!
Kristina is intrigued by waves, so bear with the wave pictures...
and shells :)
Some waves were little...
Some were medium sized...
And some were bigger!
Don't you just love the action in this photo?
Swimming in the waves was lots of fun too... here's Lucas trying it out. :)
And Daniel doing it too! (Kristina swam too, but no one had the camera then)
Bird chasing was fun too (walking stealthily with the camera)
Daniel and Kristina nice and cooled off!
Another bird, going fishing.
We were shocked at the miles of hotels along the beachline!
The palm trees were so pretty though :)
A lighthouse in the background at Ponce Landing.
Daniel and Kristina all dried off and clean. :)
Pelicans flying overhead.
Sailboats going by
Watching the waves beat the rocky shore was fun!
Another bird
Splash!
Splash!
Big splash!
Giant splash!
Footprints in the sand...
We had to go find that lighthouse...
We even got to climb up inside it!
All the way to the top.... all 204 stairs!
The view from the top was gorgeous!
Daniel at the top.
Kristina at the top
The lighthouse lenses to magnify the light were really neat to see up close.
This tells you about how they work.
The next week, was EF Student orientation for Lucas and the other exchange students.
They had fun playing frisbe afterwards.
Student group photo
Daniel got Kristina beautiful flowers!
Another trip... this time to Memphis, TN. Daniel and Kristina spoke for the KY-TN conference Evangelism Summit, both there and in Louisville, KY.
Over the Mississippi river!
Memphis, just ahead
Over the bridge
We stopped here to let Lucas put his hands in the water.
While we were in town, we had to see the Peabody Ducks :)
Swimming in the fountain after the march.
We rode the tram over to Mud Island.
The bridges, framed by trees. :)
We didn't walk around Mud Island too long, it was HOT out there!
Back across the tram again.
Close-up of the pyramid
We stopped for a short visit with Israel and Kyla. Sorry we don't have any good pictures of them...
After our trip the following week to Louisville for the next Evangelism Summit, we stopped so Lucas could see where Abraham Lincoln was born.
