Leaving our "kids" behind at home, we headed out Thursday morning for the Smoky Mountains. This was our first glimpse along the way. :)
As we got closer, we drove along this beautiful river.
We got to Gatlinburg just in time for a picnic lunch before the sun disappeared. The weather was cool, but it was special!
View of the creek flowing by our picnic table at the park.
Daniel doing a bit of exploring before we headed to our cabin.
The bridge at the city park entrance.
Golf course we drove through to get to our cabin.
Back view of cabin from the road.
Front view of cabin. It was so quiet and peaceful out there, with a creek running right past us!
View inside from the front door.
The living room--also from the front door.
Looking up from the front door at the loft.
Closer view of the fully-equipped kitchen. Master bedroom door is on the right.
Looking at the dining room table and propane fireplace from the kitchen.
View of master bedroom, closet and bathroom from doorway.
Looking back from bathroom door.
Upstairs in the loft was a large pool table. We used it as our puzzle table! :)
Our first breakfast--Friday morning--strawberry shortcake!
After breakfast, we took a scenic drive. The weather was nice, but the rain was supposed to block us in for the rest of the weekend. We wanted to see it before the clouds came!
Climbing up in the Smokies towards Newfound Gap.
Some of the waterfalls along the road.
There was a light snowfall on the trees, making this mountain have a "silvery" tone.
One of the trails that we hiked along the way.
A river we hiked down to.
View of a shale slide on the distant mountain.
Climbing higher
Our best view of the Smokies, just as the rain clouds were rolling in. It gave unique color variations!
One of our favorite view points.
You can see the rain clouds rolling in.
Kristina enjoying the view.
Daniel taking a turn.
Another little falls along the road.
On our way back to our cabin, we got to watch as the mountains slowly disappeared in the thick clouds.
The rain hadn't reached us yet, so we stopped just outside Gatlinburg for another hike.
A hollow tree that Daniel climbed into along the trail.
Our destination was Rainbow Falls. It was so quiet and peaceful out there!
Self Portrait (with the camera on timer)
Kristina had sneaked her wedding dress and Daniel's suit along, without Daniel knowing. So she had fun putting on her dress and surprising Daniel!
Daniel, after he recovered from his shock, couldn't resist the photo opportunity. ;)
The two of us on the porch at the cabin.
Another portrait on the porch.
Kristina on the stairs to the attic.
Kristina standing in the front doorway.

Back of Kristina's dress.
Celebrating our Second Anniversary ;)
The creek looked like this as it flowed by our cabin on Friday morning.
By Sabbath afternoon it was a raging creek!
We had a lot of fun putting our puzzle together, besides watching our wedding DVD, soaking in the hot tub on the back porch, and working on our wedding photo album.
Monday morning, the sun finally came out again, so we headed to Cade's Cove.
The waterfalls and the river were so pretty along the way!
The tunnel with the waterfall made a unique photo.
Our first animal spotted upon our arrival to Cade's Cove, was a pair of strange turkeys. They had beards hanging off the bottom of their neck!
Beginning our 11-mile trip around the cove.
Deer grazing in the fields with majestic Smokies in the background.
The cabins were fun to hike to and explore.
View from the cabin. How would you like this kind of view from your home?
The old churches and graveyards were neat too.
Men one door, Women the other.
Our favorite viewpoint along the way--this is part 1.
Here's part 2.
Another viewpoint. The color variations in the grass are so pretty!
Blacksmith shop.
Unique barn with overhang
Old millstones
And the old mill!
Corn crib with LARGE overhangs.
Double-sided barn with overhang in the middle.
Old sorghum cooker.
Hand-crank (or Donkey pulled) juicer for the sorghum stalks.
You can see the spout where the juice comes out.
Another scenic homestead.
And another double-decker barn, with overhangs on each side AND the middle!
View from that homestead.
Another little cabin.
A coyote crossed the road in front of us, and walked around for a while.
Close-up of the coyote.
Later, when we were eating a picnic lunch at the park, the same coyote came walking up!
When I told him to go away, he ambled on down the road. After our picnic, we headed back home. It was a wonderful trip--just what we needed! :D
